How To Ease Clearance At Nigeria’s Ports, By GTP Chairman

The Chairman and Publisher of Global Transport Policy, Dr. Oluwasegun Musa says automation of cargo clearance processes at Nigeria’s ports is the solution to the challenges surrounding clearance of goods.
Speaking at a Television Programme, Transport Line, Musa said: “What will give us 24 hours clearance at the ports is automation of the ports. Processes must be automated. Automate the customs. Automate the Shipping Line. Automate operators. Everything must be online and it must be time-bound.”
Musa further explained that the regulator of the maritime industry, Nigeria Maritime Administration & Safety Agency (NIMASA) ought to be an active industry player and own its carrier to be able to superintend over the other players. He said the situation is one of the reasons Nigeria does not have a seat at the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
