The lawmaker representing Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency in Kano State, Honourable Alhassan Ado Garba popularly known as Ado Doguwa has called on the Speaker and members of Nigeria’s Green Chamber to shut down the house until the executive addresses the prevailing state of insecurity in the country.

Speaking on the floor of the house, Doguwa, who is of the All Peoples Congress (APC), said: “If the government is not actually prepared to do the right thing that will protect the lives and property of our people, I urge you, this honourable house, as the House of the people of Nigeria, to pay the supreme cost; not more than to shut the house down and to call emergency on any legislative issue and wait until  the right action is taken by the government of the day.”

He said: “It is a collective thing that we must put our hands on deck and call whoever is responsible to order. This house must not take for granted that we are not part of the government.”

“Mr. Speaker! We can even declare legislative emergency; close the house, shut it down. Who are you legislating for? What laws are you making when the country is running in blood and tears? The farmers cannot go to farm. Our traders cannot go to market. Worshippers cannot go to mosques, cannot go to churches. Then, what are you legislating here?, he said, adding that “we are equally responsible. We should go down to our constituencies and reorganize our Vigilante groups and see how we can salvage and protect our country, Nigeria.”

Doguwa said the responsibility of every elected government, or even military government, is the protection of lives and property and that the nature of the insecurity is not religious or political. “This menace of insecurity in Nigeria does not have any identity of a particular tribe. It is a calculated attempt to demoralize the Nigerian state.”

“This is a high level of conspiracy targeting our political processes.”

“We have to go beyond making pronouncements on the floor.”

The legislator further said: “When you are speaking from the point of view of the Nigerian people, we must be prepared to call a spade a spade.”

“Yes. The government is doing its best. The security agencies are doing their best but their best is not good enough,” he said, adding that the security situation is horrific.

“Our situation in Nigeria today in the area of security is unspeakable. It is unspeakable because our people are left ravaged in serious tension and disparages all because we are reneging in our institutional and collective responsibility as a government,” he said.

“Mr. Speaker! What we have today is like a failed security. What we have today in my view, is for me to quote in the words of the popular Bob Marley in his song in those days in the 80s when he was saying ‘War in the north, war in the west, war in the east and war down south’.

Mr. Speaker! Nigeria is operating today in a complete war against humanity,” he said.
